Enjoy ancient treasures from Myanmar along with flavours of the country. Cities & Kings introduces the art and culture of Myanmar through fascinating objects selected from the country’s National Museums. Largely unknown, Burmese street food delights with bold textures, colours, and flavours. Discover Myanmar’s art and cuisine with pairings of wines and cocktails, including one from the legendary Pegu Club of Yangon. Sample their signature gin and citrus cocktail – Southeast Asia’s most refreshing tipple.

7 to 7.15 Welcome and first pour

7.15 to 8 Making of Cities & Kings

Exhibition curators Stephen Murphy and Conan Cheong, along with editor (& photographer) Richard Lingner, will share experiences travelling and working in Myanmar to put this show together.

8.15 to 10 Burmese street food with wines and cocktails

Cocktail pairing: Dancing Peacock (Vodka, Lychee Syrup, Basil Leaves, Ginger, Lime Leaves)
National symbol of Myanmar, the peacock represents pride and resistance. This lychee-based cocktail imbues gentle ginger and basil when enjoyed alongside dishes with spicy notes.

Deep Fried Vegetable Spring Roll, Mint and Tamarind Sauce (V)
Bean Fritters with Catfish, Balachuang, Coriander

Cocktail pairing: Lay Lay Black Tea (Vodka, Black Tea, Lime Cordial, Simple Syrup, Lemongrass, Ginger)
The soft sweetness of this honey, lemongrass, and black tea cocktail serves as counterpoint to fried foods.

Chicken “Gong Bao” Myanmar-style with Cashew Nuts

Cocktail pairing: The Pegu Club (Gin, Orange Curacao, Lime Juice, Angostura Bitters, Orange Bitters)
Signature drink of Yangon's Pegu Club, opened in the 1880s and now one of the many colonial ruins of Myanmar.

Cocktail pairing: Nat Nectar (Gin, Cream, Lime Juice, Simple Syrup, Club Soda)
Rumour has it that Myanmar is replete with nats, indigenous animistic spirits. Experience trees, lakes, streams, and hills (where nats make their home) in a single sip with this refreshing gin-based, creamy cocktail.
